Alamar Crescent Boat Ramp Parking
The details
Like many boat ramps in Northland, the Alamar Crescent boat trailer parking area needed an upgrade to accommodate increasing numbers of keen boaties. Pedestrian safety was also a concern, with no footpath for people to navigate around the busy parking area.
We were engaged to project manage delivery of the works and supervise construction through to completion and handover.
The challenge
Most projects hit unexpected challenges, and Alamar Crescent was no exception. Once tenders came in, it was clear the original budget wasn’t going to cover the work.
Then an archaeological discovery, a significant midden, stopped work for more than a month while an excavation was completed, adding further cost and complexity. The Hoskin team are problem solvers. We take responsibility for projects and create the momentum to get things done. Hoskin supported KDC to obtain additional funding to complete the project, so the works could continue.
We worked closely with the contractor to resolve design issues, including relocating water services. We also rescheduled parts of the earthworks programme to reduce standdown costs.
We have a track record of working closely with clients and community to get good outcomes. We engaged with local business owners and residents throughout construction to reduce disruption and keep people safe, and accommodated minor changes requested by the fishing club along the way.
Outcomes
We are Northland locals, committed to the places we work because they are our places too. Despite the setbacks, construction started in May 2025 and was completed within the approved budget in July 2025.
Local and visiting boaties can now have 27 designated boat trailer parks (18 new parks) and13 designated car parks. A new concrete footpath lets pedestrians move safely between the clubrooms and the ablution block, and a concrete accessway to the weigh station meets the fishing club’s request.
